An analysis and overview of the ins and outs of bee farming, cultivation, and market of bees and honey in West Virginia.
Beginning with the teacher strike of 2018 and working backwards, Outside the Mines aims to highlight the oft unheralded history of union action outside the mining industry in Appalachia. The film showcases several examples of the many different strikes that occurred in the region during the 1960s and 70s, as well as a strong focus on women of the labor movement during this time period.
West Virginia’s young educators are turning to other states for work, and current educators are stuck in poor working conditions with low pay. This documentary will investigate how this effects the state as a whole.
